From The Huffington Post— http://goo.gl/Zjt0u3Gibbs [a 24-year-old Army veteran living in the D.C. area] also said the partial funding bill offered by House Republicans was not enough."It seems they just want to fund what is getting most attention in the press and completely ignore the other hundreds of thousands of federal employees that are furloughed to get some of the heat off their backs," he said. "If they truly cared, they would fund the government in its entirety so that people like my wife and I can move forward in our careers and education. I enjoy my job and I have worked hard to get where I am. To have a fringe portion of one party take that all away is disheartening.""This is taking a pretty huge hit to employment," said Tom Tarantino, chief policy officer for Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. "The veterans’ employment situation has been improving, but it’s still tenuous. So you’re basically shoving a lot of vets out of work because Congress can’t do their job. It’s a big problem."
Just now, Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, offered to use the RNC’s money to pay to re-open the National World War II Memorial for the next 30 days.
(Side note: Does that mean they plan on keeping the rest of the government shut down for the next month? I guess that’s not a surprise since they cheered the shutdown in the first place.)
As a solution to this crisis, the RNC’s stunt was meaningless. It would do nothing for the kids who right now can’t participate in Head Start, or the cancer patients awaiting clinical trials at the National Institutes of Health, or the 800,000 public employees who want to get back to work.
Fortunately, there’s a solution that could get the government back up and running tonight (and for a lot longer than 30 days) — and we know it has enough support to get through Congress and land on the President’s desk. All it takes is a decision from Speaker
CruzBoehner to send a clean budget resolution to the floor.
So will you join the Democrats and call for an end to the shutdown?
I know Chairman Priebus is a well-connected guy, so I think he probably has the Speaker’s number somewhere. The entire country would be a lot better off if he’d spend his time working to re-open the government instead of holding press conferences from the National Mall.
Call on Reince Priebus and the rest of his fellow Republicans to re-open the federal government today:

Mitch McConnell on the sequester cuts
- "The cuts will fall heavily on maintenance and training, which further erodes the readiness of the force and will be costly to regain in the future," Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said. "As the service chiefs have said, we are consuming our readiness."
